Straight (Fine or Thin)

Very soft, shiny, hard to hold curls, tends to be oily, not easily damaged.

1b

Straight (medium)

Has lots of body, volume; appears fuller.

1c

Straight (course)

Hard to curl (bone straight).

2a

wavy (fine or thin)

Can accomplish various styles. Hair sticks close to head and has defined “S” pattern.

2b

wavy (medium)

A bit resistant to styling and tends to be frizzy.

2c

wavy (course)

Hair has thicker waves. Also resistant to styling and tends to be frizzy.

3a

curly (loose curls)

Thick, full with lots of body. Defined “S” pattern and tends to be frizzy. Can have combined texture.

3b

curly (tight curls)

Medium amount of curls. Can have combined texture.

3c

curly (corkscrews)

Tight curls in corkscrews. Curls can be kinky or tightly curled with lots of strands densely packed together.

4a

kinky (soft)

Tightly coiled. Very fragile and has a more defined curl pattern.

4b

kinky (wiry)

Tightly coiled. Very fragile and less defined curl pattern. Has more of a “Z” shaped pattern.

4c

kinky (wiry)

Tightly coiled. Very fragile and almost no defined curl pattern. Curls almost never clump together.
